Statement - Black History Month 2021
Today marks the beginning of Black History in Canada and this year’s theme is: the Future is Now.
I encourage you to reflect on the many contributions and achievements of Black Canadians, Islanders and their communities who have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse and compassionate nation it is today.
As a Black Islander, to my mind this month is about celebrating the resilience and determination to work towards a more inclusive and diverse Prince Edward Island —an Island in which everyone has every opportunity to flourish.
This month should be joyful because regardless of colour, we will work together to build a bridge of hope on our Island.
We will embrace and lead our nation in our collective journey towards equitable opportunities and a multicultural mandate of hope, love, and inclusion.
