Statement from Hal Perry: Leadership Uncertainty Comes at a Critical Time for Islanders

Dennis King has announced his resignation effective immediately.

The decision to enter politics—and the decision to exit—is a deeply personal one. I wish the Premier well in his future endeavors and whatever may be next for him and his family.

This unexpected change in leadership comes at a critical moment for our province. Islanders are facing a period of uncertainty, anxiety, and fear—particularly due to the looming threat of American tariffs and their potential impact on our economy.

In just five days, the Premier and his government were set to return to the Legislature, where Islanders expected a budget and a clear plan to address this serious economic threat. Now, that clarity is in question. At a time when Islanders are rightly concerned about the future, it appears we are entering a period of political uncertainty—one where government may be more focused on internal leadership struggles than on delivering the strong, decisive response that Islanders need and deserve.

No matter what, I remain confident that the strength and resilience of Islanders will prevail, even in these challenging times.

Hal Perry

Leader of the Official Opposition
